The School of Mathematics Project started by the centre for science education and
communication, university in Delhi(1992) is a systematic attempt to develop on alternative
curriculum in primary schools.
The Khushi-Khushi series of books for teaching mathematics at the primary level developed
by a non governmental organization called “Eklavya” in the state of Madhya Pradesh and the
study material designed by “Digantar”, another NGO based in Rajasthan.
“Suvidya” a Bengluru based NGO , “Navnirmiti” a Mumbai based NGO have also designed
a range of materials for primary mathematics. “Jodo Gyan” a Delhi based NGO designed
material for teaching and learning mathematics based on the philosophy of realistic
mathematics education.
“Sandhan” an NGO in Rajasthan has been associated with two prominent programmes-
Shiksha Karmi and Lok Jumbish for effective mathematics learning. Centre for learning
resourse based in Punai is an another organization designed simple low cost teaching
material and teacher training packages to use these materials.
The Homi Bhabha centre for science education , Mumbai contributes to the field of
mathematics through its many research projects, a doctoral programme and epiSTEME
series of conferences which are held every two years, and provide a platform for sharing
research ideas with participants within and outside the country.
